History

Founded in 2010, The UnGroup Society has been championed by Warren Leach and a group of dedicated volunteers over the years. Through the group's network of volunteers, community advocates, and local businesses Warren and the group have pulled together the power of the Waterbury community to launch several powerful initiatives throughout the years. Since 2014, the UnGroup Society has stepped up its efforts to meet a more comprehensive set of needs for the residents of Waterbury. Grown out of  love and loyalty to each other, a small group of community minded members continue to expand services to address the growing needs of Waterbury residents and the community. 

The UnGroup Society was created to identify and tackle some of the pressing issues in the community that require immediate attention and positive action. We are called the "UnGroup" because it has been a part of our mission to avoid the divisiveness and disagreements that sometimes arise when established organizations become too politically or personally motivated. Everyone is welcome in the UnGroup. We do not operate under the rules or regulations of any one group which leaves us free to work with or in cooperation with anyone or any organization that shares the group's core values of honesty, transparency and devotion to one another and our community.

We feel the key to our mission is to engage the right people at the right time for the right tasks. In this way we always have an influx of new and dynamic ideas. Therefore, we don't REQUIRE that participants do ANYTHING other than to be involved with the particular efforts in the community that interest them at the time. All are free to come and go as their interests dictate. It is not our mission to be heard from or to receive individual acknowledgment for these efforts. It is our sincere desire to participate with the ongoing creation of a spirit of togetherness and camaraderie for all the residents of the City of Waterbury and beyond.

The UnGroup Society is a grassroots organization that serves as the most responsive community resource network for the residents of Greater Waterbury and the surrounding areas. The UnGroup Society supports several independent schooling and educational programs including the Wells Walker Academy. The UnGroup Society is the standard and flagship model for community engagement for other cities across Connecticut.
